Double birthday celebrations

Posted by Gill Reid on January 22, 2012 at 11:10 AM

We have celebrated two birthdays in the last week, Dan was three years old and Keiko is one.  I can't believe how fast time has flown by!  The dogs have all been celebrating with home made tuna cake and some new toys.  Happy birthday pups!

Keiko qualifies!

Posted by Gill Reid on January 3, 2012 at 6:30 PM

At LKA champ show and her final chance, Keiko qualified for Crufts 2012 by placing 3rd in a very strong puppy bitch class.  I'm so proud of her and what we've achieved, with special thanks to Sue Ellis and Lisa Bridges for handling and grooming tips and Louise Bermingham and Trisha Dean for advice, help and support.  You are all helping us achieve our potenial as a team and I thank you.

Sadly Rio, although entered, didn't make it as my car was off the road and Louise kindly offered us a lift but only had space for one dog.    Rio's half brother Rum, owned by Trisha was BOB in Estrelas, and her auntie Cali was BB.

At Accrington and District Limit show Keiko went RESERVE BEST PUPPY IN SHOW under judge Roy Baker.  Rio was second in her class to her Estrela buddy Haia da Casa de Loas em Bamcwt.

Well done team!

more results for Keiko

In October Keiko won best puppy in match at Fylde ringcraft, then went on to come 2nd at White Rose canine society's open show in Special Yearling Alaskan Malamute.  She then came first in AV working puppy, beating the pg3 winner.  The following week she was third in puppy bitch at Midland Counties champ show.

Well done to Keiko, and thanks to her breeder Sue Ellis forl her support and advice in training Keiko for the showring.

This year's Fylde open show had classes for Estrelas for the first time.  Rio was first in post graduate and went on to be reserve best of breed.  Her litter sister Mia took the top spot.

Keiko was best puppy in working avnsc, and went on to be best of breed and also 3rd in the puppy group.  Well done to all the gang:)

PLANNED LITTER

Posted by Gill Reid on October 6, 2011 at 3:50 AM

We are planning a litter from RIO for Spring 2012

Please get in touch if you think an Estrela may be right for you and your family.  All homes will be vetted.

Puppies will be KC registered, wormed to date and microchipped and come with 4 weeks free insurance, 1 year EMDA membership, puppy pack and a lifetime of support.  We would like puppy owners to keep us posted on their pup's progress.  Check out Rio's page for more information on our laid back girl.

Estrelafest '11

Posted by Gill Reid on October 3, 2011 at 12:05 PM

We were very pleased to be able to take part in the EMDA's very first 'Estrelafest' gathering in Llanberis, North Wales.  A total of six Estrelas plus a Malamute, Jack Russell (of course) German Shorthaired Pointer, two Weimaraners and two Papillons made the trip with their humans.  Three walks took place according to the age and ability of the dogs present.  About half walked around the lake and the rest (including me) hiked to the summit of Mt Snowdon which was hard work but the views were worth it!  Pictures to follow.

Dan's comeback

Posted by Gill Reid on October 3, 2011 at 12:00 PM

I decided to enter Dan in the estrela mountain dog association limit show in September and was very proud that he won his class.  Dan enjoyed his day out so will now be shown lightly under specialist judges until his ring  confidence grows.

ETA Dan also won his class at South Wales Kennel Association champ show, qualifying him for Crufts 2012.

AMWA weekend August 2011

Posted by Gill Reid on September 11, 2011 at 12:05 PM

Our summer holiday this year was in Salibury at the Alaskan Malamute Working Association event, where we got together with lots of other Mal owners and enthusiasts. There were lots of planned events and we did manage to attend many of them. Whilst we were in the area we attended Salisbury and South Wilts Canine Association open show, where Keiko won best puupy in breed under judge Jane York of Snowstruck Malamutes. Back at base camp there was the AMWA fun show and Rio was 1st in the anything but a sled dog class out of a huge entry. Our little Rogue had the third waggiest tail :) and our daughter Hannah came second in the junior handling with Keiko who was very well behaved. The event was very enjoyable and the Mally people very friendly. We look forward to attending more events in the future.

Rogue's mishap!

Posted by Gill Reid on August 5, 2011 at 7:40 PM

our little Rogue got herself into some trouble last week when she swallowed a fish hook!  The hook turned out to be lodged in her chest but luckily out vet managed to dislodge it when giving her an endoscopy.  Despite having staples in her neck, caused by an incision the vet made trying to get to the hook, and being under general anaesthetic for over two hours, our little fighter bounced back and is absolutley fine.  The staples come out next week and she will be back to her normal self.  She's looking forward to be able to go swimming again soon - her favourite thing!
